Terms of Service

These terms describe what you can expect from Onomeo and what we ask of you in return. By using Onomeo, you agree to these terms.

01 Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using any part of Onomeo, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

02 What Onomeo provides

Onomeo is a web-based language learning application, currently focused on English. We provide:

• Story-based reading practice with vocabulary in context
• Spaced-repetition flashcards for vocabulary acquisition
• Pronunciation feedback for speaking practice
• Daily learning recommendations tailored to your level

Some features are available for free; some features require an active Onomeo Plus subscription. The free-versus-paid boundary may change as we add features — we'll communicate material changes in advance.

03 Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old to use Onomeo
• You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure
• One account per person — sharing accounts is not allowed
• You must provide accurate information when creating an account
• We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms

04 Subscription & billing

• Onomeo Plus: $9.99 USD per month, billed monthly
• Payments are processed by Creem, our Merchant of Record. Creem's terms of service also apply to the payment transaction
• Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period until cancelled
• You can cancel anytime from your account settings or by emailing [email protected]
• Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep Plus access until then
• We may change pricing with at least 30 days' notice to active subscribers; price changes apply to the next billing cycle
• Taxes (VAT, GST, sales tax) are calculated and remitted by Creem based on your billing country

05 Refunds

• 7-day refund window: if you cancel within 7 days of your first Plus payment, email [email protected] for a full refund — no questions asked
• After 7 days: refunds are at our discretion. We'll consider them for serious issues such as billing errors, prolonged service unavailability, or unauthorized charges
• Cancellations after 7 days stop future billing but do not refund the current period
• Refunds for renewal payments must be requested within 7 days of the renewal charge
• Refunds are processed back to your original payment method within 5–10 business days

06 Acceptable use

When using Onomeo, you agree not to:

• Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers to extract content
• Resell, redistribute, or republish Onomeo content (stories, lessons, audio)
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or hack the service
• Use the service for any illegal purpose
• Abuse the AI-powered pronunciation, translation, or judging features for purposes unrelated to language learning (such as bulk translation services or generating training data)
• Impersonate others or create accounts under false identities
• Harass other users, post abusive content in any community feature, or interfere with their use of the service

Violations may result in account suspension or termination without refund.

07 Content and intellectual property

• Onomeo content (stories, lessons, audio, UI design): licensed to you for personal study only. You may not redistribute or use it commercially
• Your data (notes, scores, learning history): belongs to you. You can export or delete it at any time
• We may use anonymized, aggregate data (e.g., "users practiced X words this week") to improve the product and for general statistics — never tied to your identity
• Third-party content (e.g., sentences from Tatoeba) is used under its respective open license; attribution is provided where required

08 Service availability

We aim for 99% uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Planned maintenance is announced in advance when possible. We are not liable for downtime caused by third-party providers (hosting, payment, etc.) outside our reasonable control.

09 Account termination

Either party can end this agreement:

• You can cancel anytime via account settings or by emailing [email protected]
• We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. For minor issues we'll usually email a warning first; for serious violations (fraud, abuse, illegal activity) termination may be immediate

If we terminate your account for cause, we are not obligated to refund any unused portion of your subscription.

10 Disclaimers

Onomeo is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no warranties — express or implied — about:

• Specific learning outcomes (your progress depends on your effort)
• The accuracy of AI-generated pronunciation feedback or translations (they're helpful tools, not authoritative judgments)
• Fitness for any particular purpose beyond general language learning

11 Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Onomeo and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

12 Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to active users by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

13 Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is resident, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country provide otherwise. Disputes should first be attempted to be resolved informally by emailing [email protected].
