Step by step

  1. Install Kilo Code

In VS Code, press the Extensions icon on the left, search for Kilo Code and install the extension published by Kilo Code. A Kilo icon appears on the left when it is done. The first time you open it, it asks how you want to work: with Review first, it asks before it changes a file.

  2. Open the provider settings

Press the Kilo icon on the left, then the gear at the top right of its panel. In Settings, choose Providers, scroll to the bottom and press Connect under Custom provider.

Kilo Code's settings: Providers is selected on the left, and the list ends in Custom provider with a Connect button
Custom provider is the last entry under Popular providers.
  3. Enter this site's address and your key

Provider ID and Display name: type onomeo in both. Leave Provider API on OpenAI Compatible. Base URL: the address below. API key: your key (copy it from "The three values it asks for" above). Under Models, type auto in both ID and Name. Then scroll to the bottom and press Submit.

Kilo Code's Custom provider form: Provider ID, Display name, OpenAI Compatible, this site's address, the key filled in, and the model auto
Fill in the five places marked, then scroll down to Submit.

Once the key is in, Kilo Code also lists every model that key can use: press Add to take them all, or Cancel to keep only auto.

  4. Pick the model

Back in the Kilo panel, press the model name under the input box, type onomeo, and press Select on the auto line.

Kilo Code's model list after typing onomeo: auto, with a Select button beside it
    Press Select.
  5. Give it a task

Type what you want done in the input box and press Enter. With Review first, it shows each change to a file and waits for you to press Allow once.

Kilo Code created hello2.py and shows Approved by you and Created hello2.py
Here it was asked to create hello2.py: once allowed, it wrote the file. The name beside Code at the bottom, auto, is this site's model.

Each step counts as 1 call, and a long step counts as several by its length. Measured on 9 October 2026 with Kilo Code 7.8.8: the task above took 3 calls on auto and was not charged.

If it will not connect

  • Keep /v1 on the end of the Base URL and add nothing after it; Kilo Code adds /chat/completions itself.
  • Coding sends whole files along with each request. On free models that is not charged, but a long request counts as several calls; Claude, GPT and other big models are charged by usage, and the balance goes quickly.
  • 401: the key is wrong; in Settings, under Providers, press Edit provider on the onomeo entry and enter it again. 402: insufficient balance. Claude, GPT and other big models are charged by usage; top up on the Pricing page or switch to a free model.
  • Once your own provider keys are connected on the My providers page, add my/<provider>/<model> under Models in the form to answer on your own allowance instead. Nothing else changes, and this site does not charge for these calls.
